As a Special Education Behavior Paraprofessional at Dickinson Junior High School, you will serve as a vital support system for students with emotional, behavioral, and physical disabilities. This role exists to ensure a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment where every student can access their education and develop essential life skills.
You will work under the general supervision of the Campus Principal and Executive Director of Special Programs, taking immediate direction from certified teachers. Your day will involve a dynamic mix of direct student assistance, crisis prevention, and instructional support. From managing classroom behavior and implementing the CPI framework for de-escalation to assisting with personal care and physical mobility, you will be the steady presence that helps students navigate their school day with confidence.
Your responsibilities will extend beyond the classroom walls. You may supervise students on the bus, in the lunchroom, or on the playground, ensuring safety and engagement in all settings. You will adapt to each student's unique medical, physical, and communicative needs, utilizing alternative communication methods like pictures, signs, or gestures as necessary. Whether you are assisting with transferring a student to a wheelchair, operating a Hoyer lift, or helping a student with personal hygiene, your calm demeanor and physical capability are essential to the team's success.
Candidates must possess a valid Texas educational aide certificate and current CPI training. The selection process prioritizes individuals who have demonstrated the ability to work effectively with students with emotional and behavioral disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or intellectual/developmental disabilities. Successful applicants will be expected to complete TBSI Training and maintain proficiency in crisis intervention techniques.
We are dedicated to fostering a culture where every student and staff member feels valued and supported. We maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA. Our team thrives on professional rapport with teachers, administration, and families, ensuring that every intervention is collaborative and student-centered.
