UPMC Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking a PhD, MD, or DO Geneticist to serve as Assistant Director of the UPMC Clinical Genomics Laboratory (UCGL). This role sits at the intersection of clinical excellence, academic research, and technical leadership within a facility performing comprehensive prenatal, constitutional, and oncology molecular testing.
The UCGL leverages advanced technologies, including next-generation sequencing (NGS), to deliver services ranging from whole exome sequencing and hereditary cancer screening to pharmacogenomic analysis. As Assistant Director, you will hold a faculty appointment at the University of Pittsburgh, contributing to the institution's mission of advancing clinical and public health through research and education.
In this position, you will provide technical leadership and compliance oversight for the laboratory, working alongside the CLIA/CAP Lab Director to review and approve procedures and quality assurance plans. Your day-to-day impact involves evaluating and reporting complex clinical genetics cases, assisting in the development and validation of new assays, and consulting with clinicians on test selection and result interpretation.
Beyond laboratory operations, you will collaborate with partners across UPMC, including UPMC Children's Hospital, to drive service development and business planning. This role is designed for a leader who can bridge the gap between high-level regulatory compliance and the practical needs of clinical care, ensuring the laboratory remains at the forefront of genomic medicine.
A core component of this opportunity is the integration of research and teaching. You will participate in research aligned with the missions of UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh, collaborating with faculty and researchers across the institution. Your contributions will include publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at professional conferences.
You will also play a vital role in education, providing training to laboratory staff, students, residents, and fellows, while contributing to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels. Maintaining active ABMGG certification and staying current with advances in genetics and molecular genomics is essential to fulfilling these academic responsibilities.
UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran. We are committed to advancing diversity through programs that promote inclusion, such as Employee Resource Groups and other initiatives designed to support a diverse workforce.
