UPMC Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking a PhD, MD, or DO Geneticist to serve as Assistant Director of the UPMC Clinical Genomics Laboratory (UCGL). This role offers a unique dual appointment, combining technical leadership within a high-volume clinical laboratory with a faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh.
The UCGL performs comprehensive prenatal, constitutional, and oncology molecular testing, utilizing advanced technologies such as next-generation sequencing (NGS), whole exome sequencing, and pharmacogenomic analysis. As Assistant Director, you will play a pivotal role in the laboratory's mission to provide accurate, timely, and clinically relevant genomic services. You will bridge the gap between complex laboratory operations and clinical application, ensuring that the lab's output directly supports patient care at UPMC Magee, UPMC Children's Hospital, and the broader UPMC network.
Your work will span technical oversight, regulatory compliance, and academic engagement. You will evaluate and report on complex clinical genetics cases, ranging from carrier screening to NGS data interpretation. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of quality, reviewing and approving procedures and QA/QI plans in collaboration with the Lab Director to ensure compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations.
Beyond the bench, you will act as a key consultant for clinicians, guiding test selection and result interpretation. You will also drive service development and business planning through collaboration with UPMC and University partners. In your academic capacity, you will contribute to the institution's research mission, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and mentor the next generation of scientists through teaching and training for students, residents, and fellows.
