UPMC Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking a PhD, MD, or DO Geneticist to serve as Assistant Director of the UPMC Clinical Genomics Laboratory (UCGL). This role offers a unique dual appointment, combining technical leadership within a high-volume clinical laboratory with a faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh.
The UCGL performs comprehensive prenatal, constitutional, and oncology molecular testing, utilizing advanced technologies such as next-generation sequencing (NGS) for whole exome sequencing, disease-specific panels, and pharmacogenomic analysis. The Assistant Director will play a pivotal role in the laboratory's mission to provide high-quality diagnostic services while fostering innovation through assay development and research aligned with UPMC's clinical and public health goals.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between clinical operations and academic advancement. Your day will involve evaluating and reporting complex clinical genetics cases, including carrier screening and NGS data interpretation. You will provide technical and compliance oversight, reviewing procedures and QA/QI plans alongside the Lab Director to ensure adherence to CLIA and CAP regulations.
Beyond the bench, you will collaborate with partners across UPMC, including UPMC Children's Hospital, to drive service development and business planning. You will also serve as a key consultant to clinicians regarding test selection and result interpretation. As a faculty member, you will contribute to the institution's academic mission by teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, training laboratory staff, residents, and fellows, and engaging in peer-reviewed research and professional conferences.
UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to advancing diversity through programs that promote inclusion, such as Employee Resource Groups and other initiatives to support a diverse workforce. We believe that a diverse team drives better outcomes for our patients and our community.
