UPMC Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking a PhD, MD, or DO Geneticist to serve as Assistant Director of the UPMC Clinical Genomics Laboratory (UCGL). This role sits at the intersection of advanced clinical diagnostics and academic excellence, offering a unique faculty appointment at the University of Pittsburgh.
The UCGL is a vital hub performing prenatal, constitutional, and oncology molecular testing. The laboratory leverages advanced technologies, including next-generation sequencing (NGS), to deliver comprehensive services such as whole exome sequencing, disease-specific genomic panels, hereditary cancer screening, carrier screening, and pharmacogenomic analysis.
As Assistant Director, you will provide technical leadership and compliance oversight while actively participating in case sign-out, assay development, and client consultation. This position is designed for a leader who can bridge the gap between laboratory operations and clinical application. You will evaluate and report complex clinical genetics cases, ranging from Sanger sequencing to quantitative RT-PCR and NGS data interpretation.
Beyond daily operations, you will play a key role in developing and validating laboratory procedures and ensuring ongoing compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations. You will collaborate closely with UPMC and University of Pittsburgh partners, including UPMC Children's Hospital, to drive service development and business planning. Additionally, you will consult with clinicians and clients regarding test selection and result interpretation, ensuring that genomic insights translate effectively into patient care.
This position is deeply rooted in the academic mission of the University of Pittsburgh. You will participate in research aligned with the clinical and public health goals of UPMC, collaborating with faculty and researchers across the institution. Your contributions will extend to teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, providing training to laboratory staff, students, residents, and fellows, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to advancing diversity through programs that promote inclusion. We support a diverse workforce through Employee Resource Groups and other initiatives, ensuring that all applicants are considered regardless of background.
