UPMC Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking a PhD, MD, or DO Geneticist to serve as Assistant Director of the UPMC Clinical Genomics Laboratory (UCGL). This role sits at the intersection of clinical excellence, academic inquiry, and operational leadership within a high-volume laboratory performing prenatal, constitutional, and oncology molecular testing.
The UCGL provides comprehensive services including whole exome sequencing, disease-specific genomic panels, hereditary cancer screening, carrier screening, and pharmacogenomic analysis using advanced technologies such as next-generation sequencing (NGS). As Assistant Director, you will hold a faculty appointment at the University of Pittsburgh, contributing to the institution's mission of advancing clinical and public health through research and education.
In this position, you will provide technical leadership and compliance oversight for the clinical genomics laboratory. Your day-to-day impact involves evaluating and reporting complex clinical genetics cases, assisting in the development and validation of laboratory procedures, and ensuring ongoing adherence to CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory requirements. You will collaborate closely with UPMC and University of Pittsburgh partners, including UPMC Children's Hospital, to drive service development and business planning.
Beyond laboratory operations, you will serve as a key consultant to clinicians and clients regarding test selection and result interpretation. The role also encompasses a significant academic component, requiring active participation in research aligned with UPMC's mission, collaboration with faculty across the institution, and teaching responsibilities at undergraduate and graduate levels. You will be expected to train laboratory staff, students, residents, and fellows, while contributing to the field through peer-reviewed publications and professional conference presentations.
