The Roustabout is the backbone of rig operations, responsible for safely and efficiently performing all manual labor tasks essential to drilling site functionality. Working under the direction of the Rig Manager and Driller, this role ensures the rig is ready for operation through rigorous maintenance, equipment handling, and strict adherence to safety protocols.
This position is critical for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the rig and surrounding areas. The Roustabout supports the drilling crew by assisting with rig-up and rig-down operations, assembling and disassembling equipment, and managing the flow of materials using hoists, forklifts, or manual labor. Success in this role requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately while monitoring and reporting any equipment or safety issues immediately.
This is a field-based, operations-oriented role located at remote drilling sites in Alaska. The position demands resilience and adaptability, as team members must work in harsh weather conditions, including snow, ice, and sub-zero temperatures. The environment requires working and living in close quarters with others, often on steel decking and grating.
The schedule follows a rotational pattern (14/14 or 21/21), covering holidays, weekends, and both day and night shifts. Team members must maintain alertness and attention for 12-hour tours, even during repetitive tasks, and be prepared for occasional travel and field-based training.
Candidates must be prepared to complete a comprehensive Roustabout Training program at the Nabors Training Center. The hiring process includes a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background check. Applicants must also demonstrate reliable transportation to the crew change point for their assigned rig and possess a valid, Real ID-compliant driver's license.
