As a member of the Health Care Team within the Vascular Lab, the X-ray Senior Technical Specialist provides critical technical assistance under the direction of an Attending physician. This role is central to the successful execution of a variety of Cardiac, Vascular, and Neuro diagnostic and interventional procedures. The specialist is responsible for scrubbing and monitoring these complex procedures, ensuring precision and safety at every step.
Beyond procedural support, the role involves active participation in the maintenance of lab equipment, management of materials and supplies, and overseeing ordering processes to ensure the department runs smoothly. The position requires a high degree of adaptability, as the specialist must navigate a rotating shift schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities.
Patient safety and quality of care are the cornerstones of this position. Employees are expected to adhere strictly to UTMC Service Values, including iCare standards, and to maintain rigorous compliance with hospital policies. This includes a steadfast commitment to radiation safety, proper hand hygiene protocols (NPSG 07.01.01), and the immediate recognition and reporting of equipment dysfunction or safety hazards.
The team fosters a culture of continuous improvement and education. By attending department-specific safety training and adhering to standardized handoff communication protocols, specialists help create a safe work environment for both staff and patients. The role demands accuracy, integrity, and the ability to work effectively with self-direction under minimal supervision.
