Careers in the unionized construction industry are rewarding and challenging, yet women make up only approximately 3% of the construction trades workforce. Building Futures is dedicated to changing this statistic. We are seeking an experienced tradesperson and skilled educator to serve as the Women Building Rhode Island (WBRI) Trainer. This role is designed to break down barriers for women entering nontraditional occupations.
The WBRI Trainer will design and deliver a new hands-on apprenticeship readiness program focused on cross-team collaboration. This initiative encourages women to explore careers in building and construction, build physical and technical skills, and understand industry culture before entering Building Futures' pre-apprenticeship program and subsequent placement as registered apprentices. Beyond the classroom, the Trainer will collaborate with the RI Women's Council of the Building and Construction Trades Council and program alumnae to build a robust community of Rhode Island tradeswomen. The goal is to provide skills-based and leadership development workshops that ensure women have the tools, confidence, and networks needed to thrive and advance in their careers.
As a key member of the External Relations Team, you will bridge the gap between industry standards and the unique needs of women entering the trades. Your day will involve a mix of direct instruction, community building, and strategic partnership development. You will model industry standards while maintaining a safe, accessible, and engaging learning environment. You will also facilitate peer mentoring and networking groups, provide individual coaching to women in apprenticeships, and represent Building Futures at community and industry events to elevate the voices of tradeswomen.
To apply, please send a cover letter and resume to Rachel Miller at [email protected] with the subject line "Trainer." Applications submitted without both documents will not be reviewed.
