About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Metrology Technician III to join the team on a 5-month contract with the potential for extension. This is an in-office, on-location role designed to ensure the highest standards of precision in fabrication and assembly.
In this position, you will act as the technical authority for high-precision measurements and alignment. Your day-to-day involves leveraging advanced metrology tools to validate that components meet strict specifications. You will interpret complex drawings and GD&T to guide fabrication decisions, while simultaneously directing mechanics, fitters, and rigging teams during critical alignment and installation operations. The role requires making real-time decisions in dynamic environments, accounting for factors like temperature shifts and structural changes to prevent costly rework.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circlePerform precision measurement and alignment using laser trackers, total stations, and 3D scanners
- check_circleEstablish cut lines and alignment targets to ensure assemblies meet tolerance and fitment requirements
- check_circleInterpret complex shop drawings, blueprints, schematics, and GD&T to guide fabrication decisions
- check_circleGenerate deviation reports and analyze measurement data to support quality control and continuous improvement
- check_circleUtilize metrology software such as AutoCAD and Trimble RealWorks to validate measurement data
- check_circleDirect and coordinate multiple crafts during time-sensitive operations to prevent costly rework
- check_circleCollaborate with leadership, mechanics, and QC teams to maintain alignment and fabrication specifications
- check_circleDevelop survey plans at the start of projects and communicate necessary data requirements to the metrology department
Requirements
- verifiedEducation or equivalent experience in engineering, metrology, surveying, or related STEM field
- verified5+ years of experience in metrology, surveying, or precision measurement within fabrication, construction, or heavy industrial environments
- verifiedHands-on experience with metrology equipment (Trimble, total stations, Trimble 3D scanner)
- verifiedStrong understanding of GD&T, tolerances, and advanced print reading
- verifiedExperience with metrology software (Trimble real works & AutoCAD)
- verifiedKnowledge of welding, machining, and structural fabrication processes
- verifiedProficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, indicators, etc.)
- verifiedExperience with data transfers
- verifiedStrong written and verbal English language communication skills
Nice to Have
5+ years of experience in metrology, surveying, or precision measurement within fabrication, construction, or heavy industrial environments.
