About the Role
This position serves as a vital support system for victims of violent crimes, sexual abuse, and domestic violence, guiding them through the complex judicial process. Acting at the pleasure of the Judge or appointing authority, the incumbent ensures that victims' rights under Marsy's Law and state statutes are upheld while providing compassionate assistance to victims, their families, and witnesses.
The role functions as a critical liaison between victims, law enforcement, prosecutors, and court personnel. Day-to-day responsibilities involve explaining legal procedures, coordinating communication across agencies, and ensuring consistent updates regarding case status changes—from initial appearances to parole eligibility. The position also requires close collaboration with the prosecutorial team to determine plea recommendations and to assist victims in recovering financial losses through restitution and compensation claims.
Beyond legal navigation, this role involves connecting victims with essential community resources, including emergency shelter and medical care. The incumbent may accompany victims to court hearings and trials to provide emotional support and guidance, all while maintaining strict confidentiality to protect the privacy and safety of those served.
