About the Role
The VP Contract Surety Insurance position is based in Elmira, NY, serving as a strategic leader for a specialized group of Commercial Surety underwriters. This role exists to ensure the integrity and profitability of the surety portfolio by supervising underwriting practices, managing risk selection, and maintaining sound pricing strategies.
The team services a diverse range of Commercial Surety Bonds, including License and Permit, Mortgage Broker, Liquor, Utility, Warehouse, Auctioneer, Lottery, Fuel Tax, and Auto Dealer bonds. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between the organization and wholesale brokers, building strong relationships to ensure continued business growth while implementing and executing the company's underwriting appetite and guidelines.
Day in the Life
In this leadership capacity, you will guide the team in utilizing claims history, financial status, and rate plans to determine appropriate coverage limits, pricing, conditions, and terms. A key focus will be establishing and promoting underwriting best practices to foster profitable and sustainable activities. You will provide ongoing guidance, leadership, and motivation to staff underwriters, including training the team in novel techniques to adapt to evolving market conditions.
