About the Role

The Chief of Staff serves as the operational and clinical anchor of the hospital, balancing the dual mandate of delivering world-class veterinary care and driving business performance. This role is designed to advocate for pets and their quality of life while fostering long-term, trusting relationships with clients. By partnering with the Practice Manager and Medical Director, the Chief of Staff ensures a safe, engaging environment where the veterinary medical team can thrive.

The position operates on a dynamic split of responsibilities: approximately 70-80% is dedicated to hands-on veterinary practice, including diagnostics, surgery, and client education, while 20-30% focuses on leadership, team development, and operational efficiency. The Chief of Staff acts as a role model for the Banfield brand, mentoring associate veterinarians, resolving client concerns, and identifying operational bottlenecks to ensure the hospital runs smoothly and profitably.

Our Culture and Mission

At Banfield Pet Hospital, we are guided by the Five Principles of Mars, Inc., which shape our daily interactions and strategic decisions:

  • Quality: The consumer is our boss; quality is our work.

  • Mutuality: Shared benefits endure.
  • Efficiency: We use resources fully and waste nothing.
  • Freedom: We need freedom to shape our future and profit to remain free.

We are a drug-free, smoke-free, equal opportunity employer that strongly values the uniqueness of all individuals. We promote a work environment where diversity is embraced, ensuring that all qualified applicants receive consideration without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, veteran status, or disability status.

Hiring Process and Application

Candidates must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree and possess a valid veterinary license. Two years of clinical experience and 1-3 years of coaching experience are required. Successful candidates must be able to obtain state controlled substance and federal DEA registration within three months of employment.
