The Valve Technician is a safety-sensitive position responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of railcar valve systems. This role ensures strict compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards, serving as a critical link in maintaining the integrity of railcar operations.
As a member of the team, you will work in both indoor and outdoor shop environments, operating heavy machinery and power tools while handling hazardous materials. The position requires a commitment to a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, with candidates subject to pre-employment, random, post-incident, and reasonable suspicion testing.
Your work involves rebuilding and inspecting critical components such as gage devices, bottom outlets, relief valves, and pressure regulating valves. You will troubleshoot complex valve system issues, provide technical guidance to other technicians, and verify the use of correct tools and testing equipment.
A significant portion of your day is dedicated to ensuring all work meets AAR (Association of American Railroads) standards, FRA regulations, and specific customer specifications. You will review and approve inspection records and test results, supporting audits and corrective action processes. Additionally, you will coordinate with production, quality, and engineering teams to track inventory and report on progress, delays, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Safety is the foundation of this role. You are expected to enforce all safety rules, including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE requirements, while actively identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions. The company promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and an environment free of harassment and illegal discriminatory behavior.
