The Switchboard Operator will serve as the communication hub for the Syracuse VA Medical Center. In this role, you will be familiar with the operations of a computer switchboard console and achieve a smooth operation of the Switchboard Unit in an orderly and effective manner. Your day will involve answering and connecting incoming telephone calls to appropriate offices and extensions with minimal delay, ensuring seamless connectivity for staff and visitors.
You will act as a vital link between the medical center and its community, communicating effectively with customers and staff. The role requires maintaining a locator file for employees, reflecting rotating physicians and staffing changes, and assisting staff with the processing of work-related long-distance, FTS, and toll-free calls. Additionally, you will be a calm presence during emergency situations, handling fire, Code "A", or disaster-related emergencies according to established policies.
