California Montessori Project (CMP) is a successful public charter school network based in the greater Sacramento area, serving over 3,000 students across seven campuses. We offer a tuition-free, exceptional TK-8 Montessori program open to all students. Our network maintains strong relationships with four school districts: Elk Grove Unified, Sacramento City Unified, San Juan Unified, and Buckeye Union.
Our mission is to provide a quality, tuition-free, TK-8 Montessori education that challenges students to reach their full potential. We are anchored in frameworks of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to build sustainable systems that promote whole-child development and equity.
Teachers at CMP play a crucial role in the foundational education of young learners. You will merge Montessori curriculum and philosophy with California Common Core State Standards in a multi-age classroom to create a stimulating environment that fosters intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth.
While we prioritize applicants who are already Montessori trained, we recognize that most successful candidates will need training after being hired. CMP supports this journey by paying the tuition for Montessori training relevant to the teacher's specific classroom ages (3-6, 6-9, 9-12, or 12-18). This training typically takes 1-2 years and is often completed concurrently with classroom work. All teachers hold dual credentials: a California teaching credential (with ELL authorization) and a Montessori credential from an AMS-accredited training center.
To be considered, applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship. Please ensure you completely fill out the application and attach the following required documents, as failure to follow directions may lead to non-consideration:
Note on Credentials: For the California teaching credential, we seek applicants with a California Multiple Subject credential or those who will be intern-eligible by July 1. Additionally, TK teachers must meet specific state requirements, such as 24 units of early childhood education, one year of preschool/TK experience, or an Early Childhood permit/credential.
It is the policy of California Montessori Project to provide equal employment opportunities without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law. This policy applies to all employment practices including recruitment, hiring, compensation, promotion, training, and termination.

California Montessori Project operates as a public, tuition-free charter school network dedicated to primary and secondary education within the Greater Sacramento Area. Headquartered in Carmichael, California, the organization serves over 3,000 students across six schools located at seven sites. These institutions span the districts of Capitol, Carmichael, American River, Orangevale, Shingle Springs, and Elk Grove, offering education from Transitional Kindergarten through eighth grade. The network is authorized by the four local school districts where the campuses reside.
The curriculum integrates Montessori philosophy with California state standards to deliver a child-centered, hands-on learning experience. Classrooms feature multi-grade arrangements with small student-to-teacher ratios, utilizing a lead teacher and a teaching assistant to facilitate peer collaboration and independent study. The educational approach emphasizes respect, confidence, and social responsibility to prepare students for the real world.
Aligned with the vision of Dr. Maria Montessori, the project focuses on the intellectual, social, and emotional development of every child. By fostering global citizenship and supporting individual potential, the organization aims to cultivate competent, happy, and productive individuals. Success relies on the collective commitment of parents, educators, community groups, and the students themselves to achieve high academic standards and contribute to a peaceful society.
