About the Unit
The Pre-Op Holding and Phase 2 Recovery unit at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS, serves as a critical hub for surgical readiness and post-procedure stabilization. The team manages a diverse patient population, including Urology, GYN, and SDS patients, alongside outpatient procedures such as endoscopies, cath lab, EP studies, CT scans, and blood transfusions.
The unit operates with a dedicated team of 8 full-time RNs, 2 part-time RNs, 4 PRN RNs, and 1 Unit Health Unit Coordinator. The environment is equipped with modern technology, including Pyxis, GE MACVU EKG machines, Dopplers, bladder scanners, and the Meditech EMR system. Staffing ratios are maintained at 1:3 to ensure high-quality patient care.
The Role
As a Registered Nurse in this contract role, you will be instrumental in guiding patients through the pre-operative journey and managing their recovery in Phase 2. This position requires a high level of clinical acumen, particularly in Phase 2 recovery, though candidates with pre-op experience or the ability to support pre-op staff are also encouraged to apply.
Your day will involve preparing patients for surgery, monitoring their status, and managing post-procedure care for a variety of specialties. You will work alongside a collaborative team to maintain unit efficiency and patient safety. The role is ideal for travel RNs or local nurses seeking a dynamic environment with a competitive market presence.
Hiring & Application
To be considered for this assignment, candidates must possess current Phase 2 recovery experience and active ACLS/BLS certifications. Those without these core skills will not be considered. Successful applicants must also complete the Pre-Op RN Exam and the Pre-Operative RN Skills Checklist as part of the onboarding process.
The unit is currently seeking to fill one position immediately. Candidates are expected to be able to respond to facility location requests within 30 minutes if called for on-call duties. This is a 13-week contract starting as soon as possible, offering a 3-day, 12-hour day shift schedule.
