Located on the second floor of the Main Entrance at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS, the Labor & Delivery unit is a dynamic environment with 26 beds and a dedicated staff of 112. The team operates on a collaborative, team-nursing approach where nurses actively look out for and support one another to meet the unit's staffing needs. Leadership is strong and supportive, with many team members willing to work the floor alongside staff when necessary.
The unit boasts a high level of expertise, featuring many tenured nurses with 20 to 40 years of experience. In April, the hospital launched a new OB Hospitalist program, providing enhanced attending support to the residency program and nurses working in triage. The team utilizes modern technology, including Alaris and PCA pumps, Monica Novii telemetry, and CPN (GE) monitors, with Meditech serving as the primary EMR.
This 13-week contract position focuses on providing compassionate, high-risk care during the night shift (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM). The role is ideal for a solutions-oriented nurse who prioritizes patient care and thrives in a supportive environment. You will manage a variety of critical procedures, including C-sections, inductions, AROM, IUPC, DFM, and Doppler monitoring.
Patient ratios are tailored to acuity levels: 1:1 for high-risk labor and C-sections, 1:2 for antepartum, PPROM, PTL, and PP patients on magnesium, and 1:3 for PP patients on magnesium without a baby. The unit also handles outpatient care. A key benefit of this role is the self-scheduling option, which has been identified as a major driver of staff satisfaction.
Candidates must possess a minimum of one year of current acute care hospital Labor & Delivery RN experience. To proceed with onboarding, applicants must successfully complete the AWHONN FHM certification, the L&D RN Exam, the L&D RN Skills Checklist, and the NRP certification. Candidates without these specific skills will not be considered for the role.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce.
