The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is dedicated to impacting and transforming young lives, strengthening families, and supporting safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation. If you are passionate about making a difference in the lives of South Carolina's youth, this is an opportunity to join a team committed to these core values.
As a Transportation Officer, you will play a critical role in the custody, control, and supervision of youth during transport. Under general supervision, you will exercise safety and security measures at the facility and provide secure transportation of youth to and from appointments, including medical, dental, and court appearances. Your work ensures compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and security protocols while maintaining the safety of the youth and the public.
You will be responsible for transporting youth between secure facilities, courts, and other authorized locations across the state. This role requires active engagement in the field; you will observe and report unusual activities, provide school security assistance as needed, and maintain the operational readiness of transport vehicles and security equipment. The position is essential and non-sedentary, requiring the ability to work in locked quarters, perform restraints on youth without restrictions, and handle physical demands such as lifting 50+ lbs.
Applications are accepted until 5:00 p.m. on the stated closing date. To be considered, your application must be complete, including answers to all supplemental questions, education, and work history sections. A resume may be attached but cannot substitute for the required work history section.
Selected candidates will undergo a comprehensive background investigation, which may include checks of criminal records, driver's license history, and the child abuse registry. A medical examination and drug testing may also be required. If selected for a position requiring a degree, a certified transcript must be provided. Please be prepared to provide an explanation for any gaps in employment.
The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse workforce.
