Burton Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential services to individuals with disabilities and special needs, as well as offering vital assistance to their families. Established in 1971, we have spent over five decades expanding our range of services to support our community. With locations across Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Lexington, McCormick, Ware Shoals, and Saluda counties, our staff of 325 assists over 500 individuals. Our services, including Day Programs, Residential Services, and Employment Placement Programs, are provided free of charge to those who meet specific eligibility criteria set by the South Carolina Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
We are seeking a creative, energetic, and caring Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our dynamic team and help fulfill our mission to develop and discover unlimited potential in adults with disabilities and special needs. This full-time position (32 hours per week) is part of our Community Training Home (CTH) program.
As a DSP in a CTH, you will play a pivotal role in creating the best quality of life for up to four adults living in the home. Your day will involve coaching, training, community advocacy, and hands-on support to promote independence and community engagement. You will implement person-centered support plans, assist with self-help skills and personal hygiene, and encourage a positive, healthy lifestyle by preparing light meals and facilitating planned outings, hobbies, and activities.
You will be equipped with a Chromebook to track individual objectives and complete progress reports using our online system, Therap. The role requires adaptability and a team-oriented mindset as you advocate for the residents and collaborate with the broader team.

All newly hired staff must complete a mandatory in-person orientation, MedTech certification, and all assigned online training prior to beginning on-the-job training. Orientation is held once a month over a three-day period (9am–5pm). Tentative dates for 2026 include March 24th–26th and 31st, April 21st–23rd and 30th, May 19th–21st and 28th, June 2nd–4th and 18th, July 14th–16th and 23rd, August 11th–13th and 20th, September 8th–10th and 17th, October 6th–8th and 15th, November 17th–19th and 25th, and December 1st–3rd and 22nd. Please note that these dates are subject to change.
