This position serves as a Temporary Support Assistant (TSA) within the school system, creating a talent pool for future openings at Preschool/PreK, elementary, and secondary grade levels. Under the direction of supervising teachers or administrators, TSAs play a vital role in supporting the physical, emotional, behavioral, and instructional needs of students.
The role is designed to provide flexible, on-the-ground assistance that varies based on specific work locations and staffing needs. TSAs are expected to work independently to carry out a wide range of duties, ensuring students receive consistent support throughout the school day and during off-site community activities.
Your day will involve active supervision of students both inside the school building and at community work sites. Responsibilities include assisting with student transportation (on/off bus), monitoring entry and exit points, and providing direct support for self-care tasks such as toileting, feeding, and grooming. You will also reinforce instructional concepts introduced by teachers, working one-on-one or in small groups to keep students focused and engaged.
Beyond academics, you will observe and manage student behavior across various environments, including classrooms, lunch areas, and playgrounds. A key part of the role involves gathering data on student performance and behavior to share with supervising staff. You will also implement specific behavior strategies and supports as needed, while adhering to all Board of Education policies and procedures.
This posting is specifically to create a pool of eligible candidates. Positions are not immediately open; instead, eligible candidates will be contacted as opportunities arise at the school. To be considered for future assignments, you must be capable of performing all listed duties independently and be available for daily in-person service.
We are committed to providing a supportive environment for students with diverse needs. Success in this role requires considerable patience and the ability to work effectively with physically, mentally, emotionally, and multiple disability students. We value punctual, regular, and predictable attendance, as the role requires direct, in-person provision of service. The Board of Education encourages professional development and provides training on specialized care needs, seizures, and disruptive behavior to ensure all staff are equipped to support our diverse student population.
