About the Role
This position is posted to create a pool of candidates for Temporary Support Assistants (TSA). Eligible candidates will be contacted as specific positions become available at various schools within the district.
Under the direction of supervising teachers or administrators, Temporary Support Assistants play a vital role in supporting the physical, emotional, behavioral, and instructional needs of students across Preschool/PreK, elementary, and secondary grade levels. The role is designed to assist professional staff in executing individual student objectives, ensuring students receive consistent support throughout the school day.
A Day in the Life
You will be an integral part of the school community, supervising students both within the school building and at off-site work sites or community environments. Your day may involve assisting students with boarding and exiting buses, monitoring entry and exit to ensure students reach the correct locations, and providing direct support for self-care tasks such as toileting, feeding, and grooming.
Beyond physical care, you will support students during instruction by reinforcing subjects introduced by teachers in one-on-one or small group settings. You will implement instructional plans and activities as designated by job coaches or teachers, utilizing reinforcement techniques to keep students focused and on task. Additionally, you will observe and manage student behavior in classrooms, lunch areas, and playgrounds, while gathering and providing data regarding student performance on instructional and behavioral goals.
The role requires adaptability, as duties may vary based on work location, assignment, and available staffing. You will be expected to perform all listed duties individually and independently, following AACPS policies and procedures while assisting students and staff in both building and community-based training activities.
