The team is responsible for a vast array of shared services, including wired and wireless networks, the Campus Information Services portal, UMail, telephone systems, online collaboration tools, digital learning technologies, information security, and software licensing.
Located in Salt Lake City, the University of Utah is the flagship institution of the state's higher education system. As a member of the Big 12 Conference, the campus is home to arts and museum venues. This position is critical to maintaining the physical integrity of the University's fiber-optic network infrastructure. You will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of fiber cabling, including installation (both air-blown and traditional), cleaning, splicing, repair, testing, and occasional removal. The role requires a hands-on approach to diagnosing and resolving network problems, performing optical and electronic acceptance tests, and ensuring contiguous communication and network quality.
You will work across the main campus, the Hospital, the Research Park, and select off-campus locations. The day-to-day involves interpreting engineering documentation, maintaining and calibrating optical equipment, and updating the University's network infrastructure records. This role requires flexibility, including the ability to work after hours, on weekends, and holidays, as well as participating in an on-call rotation. A key requirement is the ability to be on campus within one hour of a call-out.
Candidates selected for an interview will be contacted directly by the hiring team to schedule a conversation regarding qualifications and availability.
