This position serves as a vital link within the UNMH Rapid Response Medical Director's framework, operating under the guidelines of the New Mexico Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. The role is designed to identify patients requiring a higher level of care and facilitate immediate interventions to reduce hospital mortality. As a patient advocate, you will work in conjunction with all UNMH staff to assist with inpatient, outpatient, visitor, and employee care across neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
You will function as a liaison between multiple departments, collaborating with Rapid Response Paramedics and specialized teams such as the DR. Heart, Stroke Alert, DART, and Sepsis Response Teams. Your day-to-day involves providing essential rapid communication, performing patient assessments, and delivering care ranging from basic life support to advanced interventions like ultrasound-guided IVs and 12-lead EKGs. Additionally, you will be responsible for transporting patients safely within the hospital complex and to external facilities, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
This role offers a base rate plus an additional $6.00/hour Safety Incentive Pay. Shift differentials are available, including 17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days. Compensation is determined by factors including experience, education, and organizational needs.
Safety is paramount in this role. Strict policies prohibit cell phones and smart devices on persons unless a documented medical condition exists. The position involves working in environments with significant hazards, including potential exposure to combative patients, biohazardous materials, and weather conditions. You may drive on or off UNMH grounds and will be subject to random alcohol and substance testing.
Please note that this position requires working in close proximity to incarcerated individuals. While correctional officers provide security, there is an inherent risk of verbal and physical assault from inmates. All employees must obtain and maintain MDC security clearance as a condition of employment.
