Under the general direction of the Principal or Director of Special Services, this position is dedicated to providing quality instruction through planned, engaging lessons tailored to students with diverse learning needs. The role focuses on diagnosing individual learning requirements, creating flexible classroom environments that foster personal growth, and motivating pupils to develop essential skills, attitudes, and knowledge.
The incumbent serves as a collaborative partner, working closely with classroom teachers, parents, psychologists, social workers, and medical staff to develop integrated educational plans. A core aspect of the day-to-day work involves leading the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans, ensuring that every student receives a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) that is properly modified for their unique abilities. The role requires a balance of direct instruction for small groups and individuals, ongoing assessment of student progress, and active participation in IEP meetings to set and adjust learning goals.
Beyond the classroom, the position involves maintaining open communication with all stakeholders, ensuring compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and staying current with special education teaching methods, research, and best practices. The role celebrates student achievements while upholding a structured, safe, and engaging learning environment.
