As a Special Education Teacher at Waller Mill Elementary School, you will assume responsibility for the instructional program for students with disabilities. Your mission is to create an inclusive environment where every student can thrive by developing individualized and small group instruction that adapts the curriculum to their unique needs.
This role is central to the school's multidisciplinary approach. You will collaborate closely with general education teachers, school staff, and parents to develop and implement Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs). Your day involves facilitating data collection on student progress, conducting assessments, and serving as a key member of Child Study, Eligibility, and IEP committees. Beyond the classroom, you will teach socially acceptable behaviors to ensure learning environments are conducive to success, including outdoor activity areas and gymnasiums.
This position may be eligible for additional supplements of $7,000 for assignments to BSC, CSC, or MSD classrooms. Supplement amounts are pro-rated for positions beginning after the start of the school year.
Candidates must possess a bachelor's or master's degree in education or a related field and hold or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License or Postgraduate Professional License with the appropriate endorsement in Special Education. The successful candidate will demonstrate high moral standards, effective communication skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
