Friendly House creates a thriving community by connecting people of all ages and backgrounds through quality educational, recreational, and life-sustaining services. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where every child and family feels supported and valued.
As a Summer Camp Lead Teacher, you will be the heart of our summer program, collaborating with the team to plan and implement safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate activities for mixed-age groups of children in grades 1–6. This role exists to ensure that children experience enrichment, social-emotional growth, and joy through structured play and recreation.
Your day will be dynamic and active, taking place primarily at Friendly House (1737 NW 26th Ave., Portland, OR) but frequently extending to Wallace Park and various field trips throughout the Portland metropolitan area. You will manage groups of up to 15 children independently or up to 30 collaboratively, ensuring strict compliance with Oregon childcare licensing regulations. Whether supervising indoor activities, leading outdoor adventures, or traveling via public transit and charter buses, your focus will be on maintaining a positive, inclusive, and safety-first environment.
This is a temporary, in-person position running from June 8, 2026, to August 15, 2026. While the role is union-eligible and represented by ILWU Local 5, there is potential for high-performing individuals to transition into a regular part-time Lead Teacher position within the Afterschool Program for the 2026–2027 school year.
Training and orientation for the summer camp begin on June 8, 2026, with the first day of camp scheduled for June 15. Candidates who are eligible and available prior to June 8 may begin immediately in a substitute Lead Teacher role within our After School program.
We are looking for individuals who are ready to start as soon as possible, no later than June 8, 2026. Please ensure you have all necessary certifications and background registry enrollments ready prior to your start date.
