The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. The department supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information, and technology. The Office of the Secretary exists to provide leadership and support services, administrative direction, and accountability for departmental programs, ensuring the success of subordinate programs through department-wide coordination and communication.
The Student Employment program within the Office of the Secretary is designed to employ students at the graduate and undergraduate levels in fields of study beneficial to LDWF while providing challenging work experience. This role offers an opportunity to work up to 20 hours per week. While students are not required to pursue an education directly related to the specific office, they must be detail-oriented, willing to learn new tasks, and capable of handling multiple responsibilities. The position requires the ability to work independently within departmental policies, excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude characterized by integrity, punctuality, and dependability.
To be considered for the student employment program, candidates must be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited educational institution at the undergraduate or graduate level and maintain that enrollment while employed. Verification of enrollment from the University is required upon hire. Students do not need to be registered during summer sessions to qualify; however, those graduating in the spring semester must provide proof of enrollment for the fall semester to continue employment under the program.
