The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is the backbone of infection control within healthcare settings. This role is dedicated to the meticulous cleaning, sterilization, and preparation of medical instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are safe for patient use. By maintaining rigorous safety standards, the SPT directly supports the delivery of high-quality, safe healthcare and enables surgical procedures to proceed without risk of contamination.
A typical day involves a dynamic cycle of decontamination and preparation. You will handle soiled instruments using manual and machine-assisted methods, including ultrasonic cleaners and automated washers, before inspecting each item for cleanliness and function. The role requires operating various sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves and chemical sterilizers, while ensuring proper packaging, labeling, and quality control checks. Beyond the technical aspects, you will manage inventory to ensure operating rooms are fully stocked, collaborate with surgeons and nurses to address urgent needs, and maintain detailed records to comply with Joint Commission, OSHA, and CDC guidelines.
We prioritize a sterile work environment where safety is paramount. Our team adheres to strict infection control protocols, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining clean, organized storage areas to prevent cross-contamination. We are committed to continuous improvement, encouraging staff to stay updated on the latest sterilization techniques and industry best practices through ongoing education and training.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
