The Staff Writer Intern supports the Team Reporter in producing daily coverage of the Pittsburgh Penguins. This writing-intensive position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the narrative of one of the NHL's most storied franchises. You will cover training camp, practices, and games, while also crafting features on players, coaches, and hockey operations staff.
Beyond on-ice coverage, you will collaborate with Marketing, Partnership, Ticketing, Youth & Amateur Hockey, and the Penguins Foundation to highlight the organization's broader initiatives and community events. Success in this role requires a professional demeanor when interacting with executives, management, players, and staff, as well as the flexibility to work afternoons, nights, and weekends as game schedules dictate.
This onsite internship is based at PPG Paints Arena (1001 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA) and UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex (8000 Cranberry Springs Drive, Cranberry Twp, PA). The program runs from September 7th, 2026, to December 4th, 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until June 1st, 2026, with final communications expected by June 22nd, 2026.
Candidates with strong writing and editing skills are encouraged to apply. If invited to interview, you will be asked to provide writing samples. Previous sportswriting experience and a deep knowledge of the Pittsburgh Penguins are highly valued.
