The Post and Courier is one of the few independent, privately owned newspapers left in the United States. As South Carolina's largest and oldest newspaper, we remain deeply invested in our communities and the importance of powerful, in-depth journalism. Our local owners have deep roots in the community and care deeply about the newspaper and its reputation.
Our Investigations & Public Service team, based in Charleston, proves every day how vital newspapers still are. Through our watchdog work, we have exposed government corruption across the state, highlighted threats of climate change and sea level rise, secured greater protections for women from domestic violence, and thoroughly investigated police shootings. Our reporting has forced powerful prosecutors and sheriffs from office over misconduct findings and finally brought light to the truth behind one of the nation's deadliest prison riots. Winner of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and a six-time Pulitzer finalist since 2011, we are building on that record by adding an accomplished investigative reporter to our public service/watchdog team.
