Staff Registered Nurse — San Diego, CA at Kaiser

About the Role

As the leader of the health care team, this Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established standards of care, policies, and procedures. The role is designed to demonstrate performance consistent with the Medical Center's Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan. You will remain flexible to changing systems, ensuring quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice while treating co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the health care team with dignity and respect.

Day in the Life

In this position, you will serve as a leader who delegates tasks appropriately and demonstrates accountability. Your day involves developing and contributing to individualized plans of care that reflect assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will ensure these plans are multidisciplinary, culturally specific, and reflective of patient acuity, discussing them with patients and families to ensure clear understanding.

You will monitor patient progress, revise care plans based on ongoing conditions, and ensure optimal pain control and patient comfort. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to patient safety, including medication administration, fall prevention, and infection control. You will actively listen to the needs of patients and families, providing information in an understandable way and ensuring comprehension regarding treatment and discharge instructions.

Beyond direct patient care, you will act as a resource, preceptor, and mentor to new employees, registry staff, and students. You will participate in departmental performance improvement activities, attend mandatory meetings and in-services, and support a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership environment through unit-based teams.

This role is a Relief Charge position. Candidates should be prepared to work every other weekend as part of the scheduling requirements.
