The James Mountain Inhofe Veterans Affairs Medical Center (JMIVAMC) is seeking a dedicated Staff Physician to join our expanding Gastroenterology department at the Eastern Oklahoma VA Medical Center Hospital. We support a 60-bed VA hospital in Tulsa and are committed to serving Veteran patients with excellence. Our department is growing to better meet the needs of our community, offering a dynamic environment where clinical practice is strongly supported by integrated services including surgery, pathology, and radiology.
This is a full-time, non-supervisory position reporting to the Chief of Medicine Specialty. We are looking for a physician who thrives in a busy clinical practice, balancing both outpatient and inpatient consults and management. The role offers significant teaching opportunities through our association with the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OSUCOM) and the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine (OUCOM). The ideal candidate will be suitable for a joint academic appointment, engaging in teaching and research alongside clinical duties.
Your work will span the breadth of the Gastroenterology subspecialty, performing endoscopy at both the hospital and outpatient clinic. While the standard schedule is Monday through Friday, the role may require evenings or weekends as part of a 24/7 full-time physician commitment. This is a hybrid role with ad-hoc telework eligibility, based in Tulsa.
Tulsa, the second-largest city in Oklahoma, serves as the cultural and arts center of the state. Situated on the Arkansas River in "Green Country," the city is rich in history, having been settled by the Lochapoka Band of the Creek Native American tribe. Today, much of Tulsa remains part of the Muskogee (Creek) Nation territory. The city boasts two art museums, full-time professional opera and ballet companies, and one of the nation's largest concentrations of Art Deco architecture.
Applicants must be eligible for appointment at the VA. We welcome applications from U.S. Citizens; non-U.S. citizens may also be considered. Qualified candidates should possess an MD or DO degree, a current full and unrestricted medical license in the U.S., and board certification (or eligibility) in both Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine.
We offer a competitive compensation package ranging from $320,000 to $400,000 annually, with potential for an annual performance bonus up to $15,000. A sign-on bonus is included. We also support Nationwide Mobility, allowing you to relocate without loss of benefits, vacation time, or pay.
Additionally, this position may be eligible for the VHA Physician/Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP). This program can authorize the buyout of existing service contracts, such as locum agreements, loan repayments, or physician-owned practice contracts, in exchange for employment at our facility for a minimum obligated service period of four years.
The VA is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
