The Staff Member In Charge (SMIC) serves as the operational leader for the YMCA program at Mangrove Bay Middle School, ensuring a safe, fun, and educational environment for all participants. Acting as the primary point of contact in the absence of the Site Coordinator, this role is vital for maintaining program integrity, upholding YMCA mission statements, and fostering a positive culture for students, staff, and families.
You will be responsible for planning and facilitating a weekly curriculum of activities designed to engage middle schoolers. Your day involves direct supervision of staff, active participation in programs to ensure safety and enjoyment, and the management of daily operations including equipment, supplies, and facility cleanliness. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to building strong relationships with parents, school faculty, and the school principal, while also managing administrative duties such as record-keeping and fee collection.
In addition to program delivery, you will serve as a key safety officer, handling emergency incidents with mature judgment and ensuring strict adherence to abuse risk management and reporting policies. You will also play an active role in promoting YMCA programs to encourage family participation and support the center's budget and grant compliance.
Candidates selected for an interview will be required to complete a Level 2 background clearance through the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). Please review the requirements at the official Florida Clearinghouse website prior to applying.
