As an SSA Driver for Heading Home, you will serve as a vital link in our mission to support clients experiencing homelessness. Your primary responsibility is to safely transport clients to and from various locations within the City of Albuquerque. This role goes beyond driving; you are a key member of the team dedicated to creating an emotionally and physically safe atmosphere for our vulnerable population.
You will report directly to the Shift Supervisor and work closely with all Heading Home staff. Your day involves operating shuttle vehicles, assisting passengers with boarding and exiting, and ensuring the vehicle interior remains clean and organized. You will follow established routes and schedules while maintaining daily safety and fuel logs. A significant part of your role involves de-escalating conflicts that may arise between clients during transport and providing effective communication and assistance as needed.
In addition to driving, you will perform light maintenance on shelter vehicles, including cleaning, washing, fueling, and checking oil and tire pressure. You must be prepared to navigate stairs, ladders, ramps, and uneven terrain, and assist riders with developmental disabilities or heavy objects like luggage and mobility devices. This position requires a professional demeanor that represents Heading Home positively, while strictly maintaining client confidentiality and adhering to all organizational policies and safety regulations.
