This position serves as a vital support partner to teachers within the Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD). The role is designed to ensure a safe, organized, and inclusive learning environment where every student, including those with physical disabilities and special needs, receives the individualized attention they require. You will be the bridge between the teacher's instructional goals and the daily needs of the classroom, adapting to a rapidly changing educational landscape.
Your day is defined by active engagement and adaptability. You will assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and maintaining a neat, orderly classroom tailored to student needs. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to direct student support, which includes helping students with physical disabilities transfer to and from wheelchairs, assisting with personal care needs such as feeding and hygiene, and supervising students in various settings including the lunchroom, bus, and playground.
Beyond direct care, you will play a key role in classroom management by intervening in crisis situations and helping to manage student behavior as needed. You will also support the teacher with administrative tasks, such as keeping records and preparing reports, and assist substitute teachers with orientation. Flexibility is essential, as you will be expected to travel throughout the district and adapt to the unique medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs of each student you encounter.
