As a Special Education Teaching Assistant at Emerson Elementary (Community Unit School District 200), you will play a vital role in supporting the educational journey of students with disabilities. Your primary focus is to assist and enhance the learning process through both instructional and non-instructional activities, ensuring every student has the opportunity to observe, question, and investigate their world.
You will work directly under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher and Building Principal to implement behavior modification plans, reinforce lesson concepts, and support students in academic studies, basic life skills, and daily routines. From facilitating small-group instruction to assisting with hygiene and toileting activities, your day involves fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and parents while maintaining a safe and inclusive environment.
This full-time position (6.5 hours/day, 178 days/year) for the 2026-2027 school year offers a base hourly rate of $17.23. Additional compensation is available based on classroom needs and professional development:

This role requires physical stamina and the ability to navigate a dynamic school environment. Duties may involve lifting or moving up to 100 lbs (such as a child) and pushing or pulling items up to 80 lbs (such as a wheelchair).
