About the Role
As a Special Education Teacher Assistant at Duncan Elementary, you will serve as a vital support partner to certified teachers, helping to create an inclusive and productive learning environment for elementary students. Working under direct supervision, your primary mission is to facilitate instruction and ensure student safety and well-being throughout the school day.
You will be the eyes and ears in the classroom, circulating to provide immediate learning support and reinforcing skills introduced by the lead teacher. Your day involves a dynamic mix of responsibilities, from delivering small-group instruction and utilizing educational manipulatives to managing student behavior and maintaining classroom order. Beyond the classroom walls, you will also supervise students during transitions, including breakfast, lunch, restroom visits, and field trips to specialized areas like the music or computer rooms.
In addition to direct student interaction, you will assist in the preparation of lesson plans, instructional materials, and classroom displays. You will also handle necessary clerical tasks, such as preparing reports and maintaining student records, ensuring that the teacher can focus on high-level instruction. This role requires constant attention and awareness to ensure a safe environment for all students.
