About the Team

Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) serves approximately 22,000 students across 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Our community is a vibrant tapestry of diversity, with over 55% of students coming from homes where English is not the primary language. Combined, our students and families speak more than 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.

In PPSD, teachers and teacher assistants set high expectations for academic achievement and provide equal access to differentiated instruction. We endeavor to close the achievement and opportunity gaps among historically marginalized subgroups. This is a great place for those who desire an environment that supports creativity and ingenuity while respecting the credentials and abilities of every educator.

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Special Education 1:1 Teacher Assistant to join our community of teachers, students, and stakeholders. This is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity designed for those excited to support students with diverse learning, behavioral, and medical needs.

In this role, you will provide support in 1:1, 1:2, or flexible assignments. Whenever possible, Teacher Assistants follow students throughout their PPSD education to provide stability and consistent support. You will collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure each student's success, assisting with instruction, reinforcing IEP goals, and promoting a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Important Note: The safety of school children is a paramount responsibility. All Teacher Assistants must be available for bus monitoring assignments, with additional hours worked compensated accordingly.

Hiring Process & Application

This is a one-year-only position. Employees are eligible to apply and interview for other positions and will be placed for the following school year in accordance with certification (if applicable) and the collective bargaining agreement. Please note that this position is contingent upon funding.

Equal Opportunity

Providence Public Schools is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer actively seeking to increase minority recruitment. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, age, sex, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, color, disability, or veteran status. All programs are open to all individuals regardless of these characteristics.
