Founded in 1908, the Wilmette Park District is a government agency dedicated to acquiring, developing, and maintaining natural areas, parks, and leisure facilities in the Village of Wilmette. Located 14 miles north of Chicago, our suburban community is home to over 300 acres of parks and open land, including Gillson Park, the Wilmette Beaches, Keay Nature Center, and the Mallinckrodt Park. We also steward neighborhood parks across 18 locations and manage a portion of the Green Bay Bike Trail.
Beyond our physical spaces, the District plans, develops, and executes a wide range of recreational programs and activities designed to reflect the interests of all age groups within the Wilmette community. We are committed to our Comprehensive and Strategic Plan, actively contributing to sustainability goals and the well-being of our residents.
The Preschool Lead Teacher serves as a vital member of our early childhood education team, responsible for the holistic development of children aged 2 to 5. In this role, you will create engaging, play-based lesson plans and supervise both academic and emotional growth. Your day will involve fostering a nurturing environment where children are encouraged to develop individuality and positive self-esteem.
You will act as a bridge between the classroom and home, maintaining open and consistent communication with parents through email and our online parent communication app. As a leader in the classroom, you will coordinate with Assistant Teachers, guide co-teachers in daily preparation and cleanup, and serve as a positive role model for the children. This position is integral to our mission of providing high-quality, inclusive recreational and educational experiences for the Wilmette community.
Selected candidates will participate in a training week beginning August 17, with the first day of school scheduled for August 24. Shifts are available for 8 am – 3 pm or 11 am – 6 pm. This is a part-time position (PT1-ACA) eligible for individual HMO benefits and Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) participation.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status. If you are passionate about early childhood education and community service, we invite you to apply.
