Special Ed Aide (CLP)

About the Role

The Special Education Aide (CLP) serves as a vital partner to teachers and students, dedicated to ensuring the best possible learning experience for children with special needs. Working within a safe and secure environment, this role is essential for maintaining confidentiality while supporting individual student growth. The position focuses on fostering an inclusive atmosphere where every student can thrive academically, socially, and personally.

Day in the Life

Your day will be defined by close collaboration with the classroom teacher to facilitate a wide range of instructional activities, including reading, writing, math, spelling, and life skills. You will provide one-on-one support or assist small groups, helping students complete academic tasks and engage with lesson plans. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to managing student behavior by implementing behavior management plans and utilizing Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) training to de-escalate situations and ensure safety.

Beyond academics, you will offer compassionate support for personal needs, including hygiene, toileting, and dressing. This may involve physical assistance such as lifting, transferring, and positioning students, as well as helping them use mobility equipment like walkers or wheelchairs. You will also assist with data collection regarding student progress and behavior, participate in professional development, and support school operations during bus duty and student retrieval.

Hiring Process

Candidates for this position must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have required experience working with children. Experience with special education students is preferred. The selection process evaluates knowledge of school policies, safety regulations, and the ability to communicate effectively in English. Applicants should be prepared to demonstrate patience, adaptability, and the physical capability to work in a moderate-to-loud environment while managing the physical demands of the role.
