By joining the American Red Cross, you become a vital part of a movement where success is measured in people helped and communities made whole. You will align your life's work with a mission bigger than yourself, growing your career within a community that respects who you are both inside and outside of work. As a force for good, you will be supported by mentors who empower your growth along a purposeful path, while enjoying competitive compensation and benefits that care for you as you care for others.
The American Red Cross is seeking a Mobile SAF-IS Regional Program Specialist to support the Service to Armed Forces and International Services Division mission at Fort Lee Army Base and the surrounding area. This is a unique regional role within our mobile staff, designed to serve as the "face" of the Red Cross at assigned locations.
In this position, you will manage and administer the delivery of services to U.S. military members, veterans, and their families. You will cultivate relationships with military leadership, community organizations, and government partners to further the Red Cross mission. A core part of your day involves managing a volunteer engagement program, recruiting and training leadership volunteers, and ensuring the consistent delivery of services through supervision and coordination with military treatment facilities and VA hospitals.
This position is designated as "Mobile," which is a condition of employment. Mobile staff members are required to deploy worldwide, typically for 6 months at a time, approximately once every 18-24 months. You may be sent to any military base in the world, including conflict areas, to support deployed military members and their families.
To succeed in this role, you must be ready to deploy whenever called upon. This requires meeting and maintaining strict medical and security clearances, including a secret security clearance and a no-fee U.S. passport. You must be prepared to live and work in harsh, stressful environments, potentially wearing military uniforms and participating in readiness drills. While relocation assistance is available for current employees within a 50-mile radius, this role demands worldwide mobility and the physical stamina to adapt to challenging climates and situations.
The ideal candidate is a servant leader with a passion for supporting military members. You should possess the emotional capacity to live and work alongside deployed personnel in difficult environments. Success in this role requires the ability to thrive on service and teamwork, adapt quickly to new situations, and manage through ambiguity to solve complex problems. Familiarity with military culture, regulations, and protocol is strongly desired.
The American Red Cross is an Equal Opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law. Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered in accordance with applicable state and local laws.
