The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community, focusing on mental illness, substance use addiction, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Today, the NCSB serves over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly, offering integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for those needing assistance stabilizing in the community.
About the Role
The Service Member, Veterans, and Family Liaison (SMVF) - Administrative Assistant I serves as the primary point of contact for service members, veterans, and their families seeking access to NCSB services. This role is dedicated to instilling hope and recovery opportunities for the persons we serve.
In this position, you will facilitate timely and appropriate connections to behavioral health, crisis, and support services. You will build and maintain strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders serving the SMVF population. The role involves navigating clients to appropriate services within the NCSB or through external community providers, ensuring culturally competent support and guidance. You will also represent the organization at public events and outreach activities to promote awareness of services available to the veteran community.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleServe as the primary point of contact for service members, veterans, and their families seeking access to NCSB services
- check_circleConduct outreach and navigation to connect SMVF individuals with appropriate behavioral health and support services
- check_circleTrack engagement and service outcomes, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports on service utilization trends
- check_circleBuild and maintain relationships with local, regional, and state stakeholders serving the SMVF population
- check_circleCollaborate with internal teams to ensure coordinated care and warm handoffs for SMVF clients across departments
- check_circleProvide training and presentations to staff and community partners on military culture and available resources
- check_circleRepresent Norfolk CSB at public events, outreach activities, and stakeholder meetings to promote service awareness
- check_circleMake referrals to internal programs and external agencies based on client needs and service availability
Requirements
- verifiedHigh school diploma or equivalency
- verifiedOne year of general office work experience
- verifiedBachelor's degree (may substitute experience)
- verifiedTwo years' experience in data analysis or related field
- verifiedVeteran status with honorable or general discharge
- verifiedQualify for Virginia Crime Information Network (VCIN)
Nice to Have
Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Two years' experience in data analysis or related field. Veteran status with an honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions.
