The Senior Superintendent I serves as a pivotal leader on-site, responsible for the coordination of project activities and the supervision of work teams across multiple or large, complex construction projects. This role exists to bridge the gap between project planning and execution, requiring a professional who is flexible, resourceful, and proactive in an ever-changing environment.
In this position, you will anticipate critical issues and opportunities as they arise, bringing creative solutions to the forefront. You will interface with various staff levels, from engineers to project managers, to ensure materials, equipment, and inspections align with the project schedule. A key part of your day involves managing site logistics, developing crew sizes, and selecting formwork systems while maintaining a strong focus on safety through the implementation of Mortenson's Zero Injury Safety Program.
Beyond technical oversight, this role is deeply rooted in leadership. You will coach, mentor, and train field personnel, foremen, and assistant superintendents, fostering a teamwork environment where crew members have the necessary resources and support. You will also manage relationships with diverse stakeholders, including customers, architects, union representatives, and subcontractors, ensuring a professional and collaborative site atmosphere.
