The VMEC team develops the embedded controllers and software that power GM's propulsion, steering, and suspension systems. This fast-moving group enables advanced features such as suspension control, high-performance handling, and next-generation steering capabilities. About the Role
You will work within the VMEC Steering, Suspension, and Performance Race Software team to design, implement, and test controls and diagnostic algorithms for GM's latest chassis systems. This role involves collaborating across engineering groups to influence system direction and mentor junior engineers. You will drive requirements decomposition, lead FMEA activities, and leverage AI to enhance efficiency and produce innovative methods. The position requires balancing a fast-paced environment with incomplete or changing requirements while ensuring robust algorithms meet vehicle-level performance, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleDesign and implement supervisory controls, diagnostics, and fault handling behavior for steering and suspension systems
- check_circleLead FMEA activities, analyze failure modes, and integrate safety learnings into production algorithms
- check_circleDevelop and verify controls through unit, integration, SIL, HIL, and vehicle level testing
- check_circleSupport Scrum processes including feature decomposition, user story elaboration, and delivery of software components
- check_circleProvide inputs for Calibration procedures and Behavioral Technical Specifications and support robustness testing
- check_circleHost algorithm design reviews and communicate findings to hardware teams to improve system robustness
- check_circleCollaborate with calibration teams to create robust algorithms meeting performance, safety, and regulatory requirements
- check_circleLead controls design development using Lean-Agile principles and drive requirements decomposition
Requirements
- verifiedBS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other applicable Engineering focuses
- verifiedMinimum 5+ years Engineering experience
- verifiedKnowledge of DOORS/DNG, GIT environment(s); plant modeling and/or analysis tools
- verifiedKnowledge of sub-system integration including design, implementation, and testing
- verifiedNo GM immigration sponsorship required
Nice to Have
Experience with Safety-Critical Systems/ISO26262. MS in Engineering with a focus on controls. Knowledge of Simulink, MATLAB. Knowledge of Suspension Control systems or Steering Control Systems. DFSS Black Belt Certified. Knowledge of integration testing. Knowledge of Behavior Driven Development and Test-Driven Development. Experience with C/C++ programming.
