Based at the Moody Outpatient Center, this Registered Nurse position is a vital component of Parkland's oncology services. The role focuses on coordinating comprehensive patient care for individuals facing specific health conditions, utilizing the Parkland nursing professional practice model to ensure seamless transitions through the healthcare encounter.
You will serve as a patient advocate, championing patient rights, confidentiality, and cultural preferences while fostering positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This position is designed for a nurse who thrives in a collaborative environment, acting as a resource for both patients and the broader healthcare team. Day-to-day, you will manage the continuum of care—from diagnosis and treatment to surveillance and end-of-life support—ensuring that every interaction reflects patient-centered and patient-valued care.
As a key member of the oncology team, you will provide specialized education to patients and families regarding cancer therapies, treatment side effects, and prevention strategies. You will also play a leadership role by serving as a preceptor for new staff, rotating as a Charge Nurse, and leading in-service educational programs to keep the unit abreast of the latest advancements in nursing practice and clinical trials.
Candidates must possess a current, valid RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing (or a valid Compact RN license). Additionally, a current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Please note that all certification cards must display an expiration date more than 30 days from the date of hire; completion course certificates will not substitute this requirement.
Successful candidates will be expected to obtain the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy certificate within six months of placement. The role requires a minimum of two years of nursing experience, with a strong preference for those possessing extensive hands-on oncology experience, including chemotherapy administration and complex cancer care.
