The General Adjuster serves as a critical frontline investigator for complex and extensive commercial property claims. In this role, you will determine and communicate the extent of loss or damage across a diverse range of business classes, often managing assessments in cost ranges exceeding $500,000. This position is designed for an experienced professional who thrives in dynamic environments and is capable of handling high-stakes situations with precision and empathy.
This is a commuting position based in the Washington, D.C. territory. It is not a desk-based role; you will spend the majority of your time traveling weekly to various sites, including retail establishments, office buildings, manufacturing facilities, schools, and hospitals. You will personally conduct property inspections, photograph claim sites, and coordinate with diverse teams of experts such as architects, engineers, and fire investigators to substantiate losses.
Your day-to-day involves navigating complex claim scenarios, from inclement weather and fires to accidents and vandalism. You will act as a bridge between all stakeholders—insureds, carriers, brokers, and attorneys—clearly defining expectations, timelines, and updates. Whether managing a single commercial loss or responding to a large-scale catastrophe requiring extended travel, you will apply sound judgment to interpret policies, estimate losses, and recommend appropriate settlements while guarding against fraud.
This role demands physical agility and adaptability. You will frequently work at the site of property damage, which may include locations affected by disasters. During catastrophic events, travel may extend for two weeks or more, potentially requiring evening, overnight, and weekend work. You may be exposed to extreme weather conditions, as well as indoor environmental hazards such as noise, vibrations, chemicals, fumes, or poor ventilation.
The work often requires navigating confined spaces like crawl spaces, narrow aisles, or enclosed rooms, as well as working at heights on roofs or scaffolding. Physical activities may include climbing, balancing, lifting weights up to 50 pounds, and performing detailed visual inspections. A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain state-specific adjusting licenses are required.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
