About the Role
Makai LLC is seeking a Senior Planning Support Specialist to drive the day-to-day execution of MARFORPAC G-5 (Plans) deliberate planning support and the daily planning battle rhythm. Based at Camp Smith, HI, this role serves as a critical bridge between operational requirements and decision-ready outputs for the Joint Planning and Execution Community (JPEC).
You will own the delivery of assigned planning support outputs, ensuring coordination, staffing, and product production meet strict timelines. Your work enables leaders to execute across the Joint Planning and Execution Community by applying established templates and standards to move planning actions from tasking to closure. This position requires a high degree of autonomy in managing suspense dates, staffing actions, and follow-through to reduce delays and rework.
Day in the Life
Your day involves leading planning support efforts across operational, functional, campaign, and posture planning cycles. You will synchronize inputs across USINDOPACOM, Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC), MARFORPAC staff divisions, and Marine Expeditionary Forces (MEFs). A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to running Operational Planning Team (OPT) and working group support, including preparation, read-aheads, note-taking, and closeout activities.
You will develop and edit briefing decks, information papers, and formal planning documents for senior leader review, ensuring clarity, consistency, and executive-ready quality. Maintaining rigorous version control and auditable staffing records is essential. Additionally, you will coach junior staff on battle rhythm discipline and staffing hygiene to improve overall team throughput.
Hiring Process
Candidates must possess an active DoD TS/SCI clearance and meet specific education and experience requirements, including completion of career level and intermediate level schools. The selection process focuses on verifying proficiency in the Marine Corps Planning Process (MCPP) and Joint Planning Process (JPP), as well as the ability to interface effectively with government, military, and contractor personnel at all levels.
