Join the Heartland Operations Center in Sebring as a Senior Equipment Operator. In this full-time position, you will be a vital part of the team working to improve safety and enhance mobility across Florida's transportation system. You will operate vehicles and a variety of large equipment, including sewer cleaners and hydraulic excavators, while performing minor maintenance on state roadways.
Your day will involve coordinating and directing maintenance activities for an assigned crew, which may include supervising Department of Corrections inmate crews. You will assist in selecting materials, planning workloads, and maintaining daily records and reports. The role requires performing independent manual labor, temporary traffic control, and basic construction tasks such as carpentry, masonry, and painting. Additionally, you will train crew members in heavy equipment operation and traffic control procedures.
This position is critical for emergency response. Incumbents must be ready to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis and serve on the Transportation Emergency Management Team (TEMT). The role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, on different terrains, and in high-volume traffic environments.
