This position serves as a critical support function for the Department of Energy (DOE) facilities and repeater sites within the greater Washington, D.C. region. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of radio and pager systems, encompassing design, installation, maintenance, and operational support. The role extends to mobilizing tactical radio systems for offsite utilization and training DOE personnel in their operation when required.
In addition to radio systems, the engineer provides design, installation, operation, and component-level repair for conference audio and television systems at DOE/HQ buildings in Germantown, MD, as well as leased facilities in the surrounding area. The scope of affected systems includes facilities operations, protective force, secretarial detail, OS&H emergency operations, and maintenance staff networks.
A key component of this position is serving as the DOE frequency manager. In this capacity, the engineer ensures coordination between users at DOE-authorized frequencies and maintains NTIA frequency licenses for departmental elements in strict accordance with the DOE Radio Plan. The role also involves generating documentation to track and control the utilization of personnel, equipment, facility, and supply resources necessary to support these critical communication and AV systems.
